About Longboard
History
Longboarding was born in California in vicinty of Santa Monica and Venice Beach in 50’s, when skateboarding begun to write its history. That time riders tried to find closer connection between surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. They were also looking for an elegant means of transportation, which is until now still the main use of longboards nowadays. Why is it so? You will understand it after standing on longboard for few seconds.
Ergonomy
Longboard is usually 1 meter long and it looks just like ordinary skateboard. Details are important, which make longboard something exceptional. These are wheels, which are bigger and softer than normal skateboards wheels. Thanks to that longboards are more stable, have better adhesion, can run over many roughness and you can ride longer distances without the need for any movement. Moreover, they are not such noisy as normal wheels. No less important are trucks, the metal parts that connect your board with wheels. Trucks allow to crook by the motion of your waist. They are wider and have got off-set (reverse axis out) compared to normal skateboard trucks. Thanks to that it is easier to crook and you get better stability. Lastly, it is the board itself. Board is pressed of veneers from carefully selected types of trees (in our case we use Canadian maple). Thanks to that the board is pleasantly flexible and has good response. An important factor is the choice of the shape that suits the best for the activity, which you are planning to carry out mostly on longboard.
Where to ride
So what can you do on longboard? Of course, you can ride it! Longboard is very useful and practical means of transportation that you can take to school, to work, for shopping or to a bar in the evening. Thanks to the fact that your feet are not attached to the boots with wheels, you won’t waste time with changing them. At the same time, the board can be well stored and you don’t need to lock it like a bike. In short, you just carry your board under your arm. Very pleasant way of spending time is to ride your board on asphalt paths for roller sports, which are quite widespread nowadays. Most of people who start to ride come ones to the desire to ride down the hills. Definitely, we do not recommend to start with longboarding right there! Everything needs its time.
